Vegetarian Cat Food
Your Cat relies on you for its health, happiness and
well-being. One of the most important decisions you can make
for your cat or kitten is provide it with safe, quality food.
Can cats be fed a vegetarian diet?
Many of you vegetarians may not like what I'm going to say.
I do not believe that a cat can eat a vegetarian diet -- dogs
maybe, but not cats.
I believe that is dangerous to keep meat out of a cats
diet. Cats are truly carnivorous.
It is very likely that if you deny your cat meat and
it's an outside cat, it will find meat one way or
another by hunting for birds, mice and other prey.
If it does not find meat, it will likely become ill.
According to the Vegetarian Society of the UK, Cats
require specialized micronutrients abundant in meat but
not readily available from other sources. For example,
if cats don't get enough of the amino acid taurine (the
only good source is found in meat), they will
likely suffer retinal degeneration and eventual
blindness. Other nutrients cats obtain primarily or
solely from meat include: arachidonic acid, vitamin A,
vitamin B12, niacin, and thiamine. Cats also require
more protein and less fiber than a typical vegetarian
diet provide.
If you are a vegetarian cat owner and you find that
wet canned food is just too offensive for you to handle,
then you may find it acceptable to use concentrated dry
cat food rather than canned. Lifes Abundance offers a
dry kibble which may be less offensive to handle for
vegetarian cat owners. Lifes Abundance Cat Food also does not have an
offensive odor that can be found in some of the cheaper
brands of dry cat food.
Always be sure to check with your vet before you make substantial changes to your
cat's diet or when you introduce new products to your cat's health and grooming regime.
NEVER, EVER give your cat a flea medication that
is meant for dogs. It will likely kill your
cat.
